LANCASTER – The Lancaster JetHawks hammered four home runs to beat the Visalia Rawhide 7-5 Saturday night at The Hangar.
Lancaster has gone deep 17 times over five games in this current homestand, and the team has won eight of 11 games overall.
Things started slowly for Lancaster (22-15, 55-52) on offense.
Visalia’s Connor Grey threw three perfect innings before the JetHawks got to him. In the fourth inning, a pair of singles set the table for Colton Welker. Welker mashed a three-run home run, and Tyler Nevin followed with a solo shot.
Welker extended his hitting streak to 14 games with the home run. It marked the fifth time this season and the second time this week Lancaster had hit back-to-back home runs.
Logan Longwith (2-4) worked into the sixth inning, giving up just one run on four hits. He tied a season-high with five strikeouts in the win.
Connor Grey (8-7) could not get out of the seventh for the Rawhide. Wes Rogers led off the inning with a home run, his fourth-straight game with a long ball. The JetHawks added another run in the inning on a Manny Melendez double.
Luis Castro added a solo homer in the eighth inning, giving the JetHawks a five-run lead. Visalia (15-22, 52-55) made things interesting in the ninth inning, scoring three times. Bryan Baker picked up the save, striking out Drew Ellis with the tying runs on base.
Lancaster has won eight of 11 games against Visalia this season. The teams meet for a final time in the series finale Sunday. The JetHawks can win a fourth-straight series with a victory.
The JetHawks wrapped up the series and a six-game homestand Sunday evening.
