The Santa Clarita City Council invites the public to a groundbreaking ceremony, as the city of Santa Clarita prepares to begin construction on the future Canyon Country Community Center.
The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 15 at 10 a.m. at the community center site, located at the corner of Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway in Canyon Country.
Phase I of construction on the new Canyon Country Community Center is set to begin in early April. The first phase consists of the rough grading of the construction site, as well as improvements to the Mint Canyon Channel and storm drains, and the installation of a new infiltration system.
The Mint Canyon Channel is owned by the county of Los Angeles, and the city of Santa Clarita is thankful to Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who is supporting the project by funding a portion of the channel improvements.
A box channel will be created on the site, which will enclose the majority of the existing channel and allow for landscaping and a trail to be put on top of it to enhance beauty and increase usable space.
Storm drain improvements and the installation of an infiltration system will have a positive environmental impact on the area by reducing water pollution.
The infiltration system, which will be placed underneath the west and north parking lots on the site, will receive water from the Sierra Highway storm drains and remove the harmful debris and pollutants before releasing the water back into the ground and recharging underground aquifers.
Future phases of the construction project will include the actual Canyon Country Community Center building, and other public amenities at the site- including walkways, courtyards, an open turf area and playground, landscaping and roadway improvements.
When completed, the new site will replace the current community center on Flying Tiger Drive. The future community center will hold classes, activities, programs and more for youth and adults, as well as special community events and workshops.

Hey guys, are there any links to more info on this planned improvement for the low-rent side of the SCV?
And will we get discount tickets for pizza?
I would be intrested in scheduling a presentation SCV “First People” Tataviam Culture. It is important for the community as a whole to understand the area and its cultural significance before European Contact.
I have found with school children especially find a completely new perspective about the place they call home.
