I think it’s time to think about wider not prettier. So much traffic. lanes are needed not plants. Just saying
It would be great But where the center dividers are can’t be a lane really since the Lane has to end at a cross street because the turning lanes take up the same spot as center dividers
it’s not all about looks, yes more lanes are always helpful, but statistics have shown over and over the biggest benefit from center dividers is the increase safety they provide. helps reduce lane crossover accidents, as well as limiting the left turn accident by limiting where you can now make left turns a little safer, so if your gonna put in these safety devices why not make them appealing
Can you say “bottleneck”
Beer bottle I hope
Good. Now how about Sierra hwy between Newhall ave. and golden valley parkway. It a main artery into this city and the only one that is sooo blighted and neglected. I know the excuse is”it’s a state hwy” but Santa Clarita gets funds from LA. I heard we have to wait for a builder to build on those mountains. Are they kidding! Hope so.?
Next up is Sierra Hwy between Princessa and Soledad. I agree that part of Sierra Hwy is hideous, but I think it will be a very long time before they do anything there just because it’s kind of isolated. Maybe once the Disney studio goes in?

Ah Bob, I’ve heard all that for years, but Santa Clarita is paid to maintain Sierra Hwy, I was told by the city. Where do they spend it? When you say it’s kinda isolated,I say from whom? I’ve lived here over 50 yrs and travel Sierra hwy atleast 2-3 times a week. So do you mean isolated from city planners or what. If you traveled that route to get home every night, you wouldn’t consider it isolated. If the city council felt it needed attention, they’re put it on a list of things to do. But I’m happy the other end od Sierra hwy is being improved but at least find the money to take care of the weeds and trash and black top the rest of the median,o.k??

Actually I do drive on that section of road almost everyday. By isolated, I mean there is nothing over there. Virtually no homes and just a nasty oil field so no one is really living near the road. Everyone who sees it is just passing through and it is a very long stretch to improve. I think they can justify median improvements near homes and businesses because they increase property values which eventually increases property taxes. It’s a hideous stretch of road though, no question about that.
Christopher, your points are well taken other than they do wait for builders and squeeze them for landscaping money before they get a permit.lol also I agree that disney will be tapped too, and in fact since they got approval to build, it’s Prob.a done deal. Over the years tho, I’ve fought for sidewalks by friendly valley. The weeds and rocks can be taken care of on both sides tho.?
I think I like the before better.
Looks nice , but why not make it safer by installing better street lighting? Maybe even unseeing LED systems that use less energy.
What a waste of money
Mucho gasto, mucho tiempo perdido por tan poco!
Muy cierto un gasto millonario por tan poco

More water spending and places for cops to hide.

Awesome you just let the cops know they could hide there. You could be an explorer.

low-water-demand landscaping, water-saving irrigation? It was No Water before right?
Good point.

I’ll bet that the people that put this together are getting kickbacks from the contractors that did it because this has no purpose whatsoever
Huh, where do you live? It’s about time, I’d say!

Now I can’t turn left into my building, I have to bust a U a little further down.
Now I can’t turn left into my building, I have to bust a U a little further down.
That’s where the cops will be hiding to give you a ticket to pay for all the work they did.
There are so many more important things more money can be spent. Not to mention if there is an emergency and there is a lot of traffic and firetrucks ambulances and police cannot get through because of all the solid mediums they are putting everywhere, most of these mediums have trees if there’s an accident and a fire truck needs to get through is he supposed to plow through the trees?
As a former police officer I can assure you the medians pose little issues of getting to and from incidents, the biggest issue is with people who do not move to the right and yield to a emergency vehicle, divider or not that is the biggest problem.
Waste of money
Fine, but now could they please re-surface it? That is one of the most beat up stretches of road we have in SCV.
Yes re pave streets instead of wasting time/money in medians fix roads that stretch of road needed to be re paved not needed a center median

Go home Santa Clarita you’re drunk
Now u can’t make u turns anywhere, cause they don’t want u to u turn at the lights, and now u can’t over medians so u have to drive miles out of ur way to turn around.. hopefully u never get lost or miss ur turn. Lmao
It used to be all complaints that Valencia got all the attention. Now they fix it up and the complainers remain. Oh what’s a city to do?
They should call this awesome complainers town!?????
They should call this awesome complainers town!?????
Yep?
Yep?
It’s not a complaint it’s a suggestion, if you read it correctly…..
Is this the road formally known as San Fernando Road?
Yes
Welcome to Santa Monica. LOL
A waste of resources all around…typical Cali government.
I’m from the government and I am here to help – Ronald Reagan
Hey i worked on that project
Well that was worth millions of over priced drawn out union rate dollars.
It screwed all the people that live in those appartments…
It’s not that serious
Lol it was annoying! But I moved to Castaic, I don’t have to deal with it any more.
I’m right there with you Steve ! The only contractor that I’ve seen is Becker and sons
Its a deal to bring more “high class” into the scv. Yuppy …I’m better than you
More proof of government wasteful spending
Amen
Stupid city building those with planters and plants that need to be watered! Really
Looks like they did add turn lanes.
Looks like they did add turn lanes.
City just made it difficult and unsafe U-turns to get to carpool and small businesses. Seems like they are trying to push out small businesses.

turning around anywhere in santa clarita is now an experience… I think how much fuel I spend by not being able to turn around easily to go in another direction. I love going a mile in the other direction, just to go to a business right nextdoor to where I was just at…. At $4 again, you’d think we’d want to drive less not more….. but hey, it all looks great…. drought? Energy crisis? Fuel price explosion? Nah, it all really doesn’t matter. Place just has to look good, thats all…… silly waste of money!
I liked it better before.
Why Not Fix The north 5 Fwy Going Towards Castaic!
Love it!
Love it!
You guys are all so funny.? they do a long over due improvement and the tongues all start wagging. Bet you nay sayers don’t live near the site but if it were on Lyons, I’d just hear applause. Relax, it’s no big deal!
Totally agree Jeff, people act like it’s a new thing when a fire truck or police car comes blaring sirens. Nothing new MOVE to the right. I also feel if we had more lanes, we can make it safer and move over and give you guys some space.
Everyone’s a judge & has a better idea – just relax & enjoy an attempt to make Newhall look better!
And now there are plants that need to be watered. We are in a drought
The new median’s all use reclaimed water.
I wonder if it will look as fantastic as the million dollar on-ramp at Lyons and Interstate 5 north. That was a great expenditure as well. Carol Clark, what a city should do is stop spending money on stupid stuff. Beautification of Newhall Avenue…..really?
Needs rail transportation in the center.
The rail transportation is to the left – most of road runs along railroad tracks
Again?? I have been living in this area over three years and three times they have torn up Newhall Avenue! They “beautified” it with new medians and put in plants they can’t even water now? Stupid! Talk about bottlenecking! And they are getting ready to do it to us one more time? When will they make an end?? I am sick to death of being forced to deal with it. Grrr!
