Irvine, CA – In its final regular season road match, The Master’s College women’s volleyball team fell to the No. 2-ranked Concordia Eagles in three sets (20-25, 15-25, 15-25) Tuesday night in Irvine.
The loss brings the 16th-ranked Lady Mustangs’ 2013 record to 18-8 and 7-6 in GSAC play.
Concordia controlled the first set from the start until TMC pulled within two points, bringing the match to 21-19. But, three Eagle kills and a service ace outmatched Aubrey Pyburn’s (Burbank, CA) kill, and ended the first set at 25-20.
TMC held its own in the second frame until Concordia rocketed out on a 10-5 run at the 15-10 mark, bringing the set to 25-15.
Despite an early TMC lead, things didn’t get better for the Lady Mustangs in the third frame as Concordia quickly finished the set and match with another 25-15 victory.
As a team, TMC produced 30 kills, a .184 attack percentage, 28 assists, and 45 digs.
Sam Dougherty (Madera, CA) led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 10 kills, Aubrey Bekendam (Orland, CA) tallied 22 assists, while Rebecca Peluffo (La Crescenta, CA) notched 14 digs. Dougherty also earned 11 digs while Pyburn produced 6 kills.
Now, TMC will look to rebound and close out its regular-season schedule Saturday night at Bross Court in a 6:00 p.m. match against San Diego Christian. Also on Saturday, The Master’s College Athletic Department will honor the contributions of the volleyball program’s two senior athletes: Sam Dougherty and Rebecca Peluffo.
