Hosted by the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley, the fourth annual Purple Walk of Strength will be held this weekend.
The walk will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015 at the College of the Canyons Cross Country Track, with opening ceremonies beginning at 8:00 a.m. and the race starting at 9:00 a.m.
Registration is now open to men, women, children, families, community and organizational groups interested in walking or running to raise funds for and awareness about domestic and family violence.
Modeled after the popular “paint or color runs” hosted across the nation, Purple Walk of Strength colors participants in shades of purple to raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence and local resources for families.
“Domestic and family violence can be hard to talk about, so our goal at the Purple Walk is to create awareness about issues and share resources in a fun and healthy environment,” said Linda Davies, executive director of the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley. “This event is for everyone, whether you are a survivor, currently in an abusive relationship, or just want to know more about local resources to help friends and family. You’ll get a wealth of information, enjoy a great workout and connect with others in the community.”
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month and there is no better way to support the DVC’s mission of intervention, prevention and education than to walk or run with neighbors and friends.
Registration is $20 per person through Oct. 16 at [this website] and $25 on race morning. Teams are invited to register for just $50 for a team of up to four individuals, and add $10 per person for every member after that up to 10 per team.
Participants will enjoy an inspiring morning, an exciting race, food trucks, raffles, swag bags and more.
White Domestic Violence Center T-shirts will be available the morning of the race for $10, or participants can wear a white T-shirt of their choice.
All proceeds from the Purple Walk of Strength will benefit programs available at the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley, which believes everyone deserves a life free of violence.
Domestic Violence knows no boundaries, but can be overcome when communities comes together in support of intervention, prevention and education.
