California Highway Patrol officers are following an RV on the I-5 northbound past Santa Clarita around 3:12 p.m. The pursuit passed through the Grapevine as of 3:30 p.m.
A pursuit of the same vehicle began earlier this morning by the Sheriff’s Department and, for unknown reasons, their pursuit was canceled, according to CHP Officer Eric Priessman.
The initial pursuit began at Newhall Ranch Road and Dickason Drive in Valencia around 9:30 a.m., said Shirley Miller, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station spokesperson. The vehicle is a white Dolphin motorhome and the driver is a wanted domestic violence suspect.
“(This morning) deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over but the vehicle did not yield and the pursuit was initiated. The suspect drove westbound on Newhall Ranch Road to Rye Canyon, made a u-turn and drove eastbound on Newhall Ranch Road,” Miller said. “CHP was notified as a precaution of the pursuit. The investigation is still active. At that time, the suspect was not brought into custody.”
The LAPD Wilshire Division initiated the current pursuit, Miller said. CHP is handling the pursuit now.
“CHP took over the pursuit from LAPD on the northbound 5. The vehicle is going up the Grapevine,” said Priessman. “We have units following and a Sheriff’s deputy following. At this point, our units are keeping a safe distance. The driver is a suspected parolee and believed to be armed.”
It is believed that a child is in the vehicle, Priessman said.
