Santa Clarita High School Boys Basketball

Congratulations to the 2015 SFV Invitational All-Tournament team, named over the weekend. Four Santa Clarita Valley players were selected as the best of the best, including two Trinity Knights.

Noah Peterson and Michael Mateo represent TCA after a strong 3rd place finish that saw the Knights take down both Foothill League participants (Canyon in group play, Saugus 55-54 in the 3rd place game).

One player each from the other two schools — Josue Valencia from Canyon and Cameron Smith from Saugus — round out the SCV selections.

The Hart Holiday Classic tipped off Saturday with the Indians and the Golden Valley Grizzlies competing in this year’s edition.

The Indians (3-6) dominated Arleta, 87-45, pulling away for good in the second half with a 27-9 advantage in the 3rd quarter. Senior Charlie Masino led Hart scorers with 17 points.

Up next for Hart is GV Bakersfield, tonight at 7:30 pm.

Golden Valley (7-2) continues to prove it will be a factor in the Foothill League, overcoming a sluggish start against Oakwood to defeat the Gorillas, 76-57.

The Grizzlies pulled away for good in the fourth quarter thanks to a flurry of three pointers by Derek Schlossman. Game 2 of the Holiday Classic is tonight at 7, when the Grizzlies will take on Righetti.

Things aren’t going so well for the Saugus Centurions (4-7) in Modesto, where they’ve dropped their first two games of the Modesto Holiday Hoop Tournament. Saturday the Centurions fell to Immanuel, 68-63, and Beyer downed the Cents, 74-68 in this morning’s game.

That’s four straight defeats for Saugus after winning their group in the SFV Invitational.

Austin Galuppo continues to power the West Ranch (5-5) offense to wins. The sophomore guard scored a game-high 28 points in a nail-biting 61-60 victory over Inglewood to open the D1 Bound Southern California Classic on Saturday night.

Game 2 for the Wildcats is tonight against Loyola. Tip-off is at 7 pm.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers are in the midst of another losing streak. After defeating the Nuggets in Denver early last week, the Purple & Gold has been unable to get within single digits in any of the last three, dominated in Memphis, 112-96.

Larry Nance, Jr got the start and contributed well in his 25 minutes. The rookie notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Talk about rough back-to-backs on the road; the Lakers left Memphis last night to head to Charlotte where they take on the Hornets tonight. Tip-off is at 4 pm.
