West Ranch High School senior David Lim – featured last fall as an SCVTV Outstanding Student of the Week – will be studying economics at Harvard University this fall, thanks to a $60,000 scholarship from the Elks National Foundation.
Lim was one of two top winners – the other is Joanne Dynak of Illinois – in a nationwide scholarship contest from the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Each will receive the top prize of $60,000.
In total there were 750 winners who will split $3.59 million under the Elks’ 2012 Most Valuable Student and Legacy Awards scholarship programs.
The Most Valuable Student scholarship competition is open to all graduating high school seniors wishing to pursue four-year degrees on a full-time basis, while the Legacy Awards are available to the children and grandchildren of Elks.
MVP applicants are judged based on scholarship, leadership and financial need. Legacy applicants must exhibit the core values of the Elks National Foundation: knowledge, charity, community and integrity.
Lim, an MVP winner, was nominated by Santa Clarita Elks Lodge No. 2379 on Sierra Highway.
Applications for next year’s scholarships will be available September 1. For more information visit www.elks.org/enf/scholars.
