This weeks SCVTV outstanding student of the week is Andrew Kim of West Ranch High School.
Andrew Kim has a 4.64 GPA and scored 2270 on the SAT.
This West Ranch senior is currently in the running to become the 2013 class valedictorian before he heads to the Ivy League to pursue his education in physics.
“When I got to physics my junior year I just fell in love with the class. I think there are so many things in the universe we don’t know that pursuing those things scientifically would be awesome.”
This fall Andrew will be on his way to Cornell University to advance his scientific passions.
“Hopefully I can get involved in research at Cornell. I’d like to maybe pursue research in the future and maybe become a professor, or a teacher. Or maybe just go into engineering.”
For the remainder of his senior year, Andrew is enjoying his time as the editor in chief of the schoo’ls monthly print publication and website, The Paw Print.
“I love writing and it’s really given me an opinion too because I write for the opinion section. It’s become one of my favorite sections to write for.”
His opinions are no doubt shaped from a strong role model at home.
For Andrew, one of his guiding forces has always been his father, who he calls a hard worker.
“I know deep down inside he has his best interests in me. He’s always there to guide me and help me with whatever I need to do.”
Back on campus, he attributes his love for learning to his teachers. It’s their passion he says that has been his inspiration to always do better.
“The teachers at West Ranch really make you fall in love with the subject. I think they instill that aspect of learning for the sake of learning and learning for betterment of yourself.”
Congratulations to Andrew Kim of West Ranch High School, the SCVTV Outstanding Student of the week.
