The City of Santa Clarita kicked off roadway improvements in some Canyon Country neighborhoods Monday as a part of the annual Overlay and Slurry Seal Project. The project includes 22 total site areas and work is expected to continue through fall of this year.
Residents and drivers in project areas should anticipate traffic delays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Drivers are encouraged to commute slowly and cautiously as there will be street closures and workers in the area until road improvements are complete. Street parking will not be allowed during scheduled maintenance work and temporary no parking signs will be posted in the work area.
“Maintaining quality roadways is a big priority for the City,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “Every year our budget includes several million dollars for upkeep and repairs, which allows us to extend the life of our roads and keep them smooth and safe,” she added.
Flyers have been distributed in the affected project areas where work begins on Monday, and all resident in affected site areas will receive notification of work prior to construction. The Bouquet Canyon Road portion of the Project is set to begin in August and will take place at night.
A complete list of Project maps detailing this year’s $6 million Overlay and Slurry Seal Program is available on the City’s website at http://www.santa-clarita.com/index.aspx?page=600.
Every year, Santa Clarita streets are evaluated and identified for their need for asphalt maintenance treatments. Streets selected for maintenance are included in the Overlay and Slurry Seal Program. Maybe that’ll solve the traffic problem…
It was about time!!!
Question is this. How many times will they stripe, un-stripe, and re-stripe the road?
Dang. I guess my busted-up street will have keep waiting.
And they’re chopping up perfectly fine curbs in our area to replace them with more curbs, also preventing people from using their driveways. Maybe I’m missing something, they appeared fine to me but watching the idiots in a rush come whipping around the corner to be met with oncoming traffic is entertaining.
Interesting. We got a note on the door last Tuesday saying the work would occur on Thursday between 9 and 10 am. Not a thing happened. So am I now supposed to wonder every day if I’ll be stuck in my driveway or have that black tar strung all over the underbody of my car? This is a dead end culdesac. Not exactly crying out for resurfacing.
I think some of the neighborhoods need speed bumps. Lots of speeding through residential streets where children are out playing
