LANCASTER – The University of Antelope Valley Pioneers (11-3; 2-0 Cal Pac) rolled against the Keelhaulers of Cal Maritime (6-6; 0-2 Cal Pac) on Thursday evening, winning 92-64 in intercollegiate women’s basketball action inside the Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster.
The Pioneers controlled the tempo and the pace for the majority of the contest, outscoring the Keelhaulers in each period aside from the third en route to routing CSUM by 28 points, 92-64.
Senior guard Samantha Earl (Clovis, CA) and senior guard Daizah Pounds (Richmond, CA) each dropped 15 points to lead all Pioneers, sophomore forward Alexia Budd (Los Angeles, CA) added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds and junior guard Kaylyn James (Long Beach, CA) chipped in with 11 points, two rebounds and one assist.
UAV hit 37-of-87 field goals (.425), 7-of-35 three-pointers (.200), 11-of-23 free throws (.478), and outrebounded the Keelhaulers, 46-42. UAV committed 13 turnovers and stole the ball 14 times. CSUM made 23-of-52 shots (.442), 6-of-17 three-pointers (.353) and 12-of-18 free throws (.667) and committed 30 turnovers and stole the ball from UAV five times.
NEXT GAME: Coached by Deon Price, the Pioneers remained home to host Pacific Union College for a California Pacific Conference game on Saturday, Jan. 5.
