[LASD] – The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received a 9-1-1 call Monday at about 10:30 a.m. from a passerby who stated that a mother had accidentally locked her 18 month-old infant in her car. Responding deputies expeditiously found the car parked in the parking lot of the Westfield Valencia Town Center. The temperature outside was already over 90 degrees and responding deputies knew they had to act quickly.
Deputies Perry and Drake were promptly able to unlock the vehicle and reunite the uninjured infant with his mother.
With the high temperature the Santa Clarita Valley has experienced during the past few weeks, it is important to stay cool and hydrated. Remember that heatstroke is 100% preventable. The temperature inside cars can reach 200°F depending on the high temperature outside, sunlight, color of vehicle, and the type of car. With temperatures that high, and without proper cooling, the heat can be dangerous and even deadly, especially with young children and pets.
