Community: Stevenson Ranch Crime Report for the week of August 29, 2016

08/30/16

Burglary (Vehicle) – 24900 block of Pico Canyon Road Person(s) unknown pried open the lock of the victim’s vehicle and stole his iPhone and his wallet, which contained $1,800.00 in U.S. currency and his debit/credit cards. Person(s) unknown then used the victim’s debit card to make purchases at two stores totaling $848.00.

08/31/16

Burglary (Vehicle) – 25200 block of The Old Road Person(s) unknown pried open the rear window of the victim’s vehicle (2013 GMC Yukon) and stole the 3rd row back seat.

09/01/16

Burglary (Shoplifting) – 25600 block of The Old Road A male adult and female adult attempted to leave the location with numerous clothing items they did not pay for. They were arrested for burglary (shoplifting).

Burglary – 25300 block of Silver Aspen Way Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s home and stole numerous high value clothing items totaling $27,820.00. There was no sign of forced entry. The victim suspects that her estranged husband may have taken the items.

09/02/16

Burglary (Vehicle) – 25300  block of The Old Road Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s vehicle and stole a bag of clothing. The victim stated his vehicle was locked. There was no sign of forced entry.

09/04/16

Grand Theft (Auto) – 25300 block of Chiquella Lane Person(s) unknown stole the victim’s black 1996 Honda Civic which was parked in front of the location.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 25300 block of The Old Road A male adult threw a rock at the victim’s vehicle, causing the window to shatter, causing slight injuries to the victim’s face. No arrest was made.

Tip of the Week: What’s in your wallet?

Leaving wallets and purses in either a locked, or unlocked vehicle where they are easily visible is never a good idea. The inconvenience of having a window smashed, the loss of cash, and having to replace a driver’s license and debit/credit cards is never fun. But if you think of the other crimes that you may fall victim to, there are a lot more inconveniences, as well as safety issues to worry about. When a thief gets hold of your wallet or purse, they will also have access to your bank account and personal identity. In many cases where thieves manage to steal an entire wallet, they most often go to local stores and make multiple high cost purchases using your debit/credit cards before you’ve noticed they are missing.  Additionally, if your purse is taken, the thief will now have your house and vehicle keys, as well as your home address. It would be frustrating to have someone steal your vehicle right out of your driveway, but it would be terrifyin g to have someone enter your home while your family was sleeping.  Never leave your wallet or purse in your vehicle in plain sight.  Keep these items with you at all times, or secure them in your home when not in use, or in a locker if the facility provides one.
