The Whittaker Bermite Citizens’ Advisory Group (CAG) will meet Wednesday, November 2. The meeting will be from 7-9 pm at the Santa Clarita United Methodist Church at 26640 Bouquet Canyon Road (at Espuella Road).
The CAG is a group of community members who are concerned about the cleanup of the Whittaker Bermite property. Chemicals originating from the property have migrated off the property and are being detected in the local water supply as well as in the air and soil.
The Whittaker Bermite Citizens’ Advisory Group meets three times a year to hear reports from the state agencies involved in the clean-up. The Department of Toxic Substance Control and the California Department of Public Health are frequent participants at the meetings.
This meeting will feature a presentation and discussion of the proposed cleanup of the water supply. Some aspects of the cleanup are in the final planning stages with work expected to begin soon. Matt Stone, General Manager of CLWA, will be at the meeting to discuss the closed wells and to answer questions.
There will also be a presentation of the development agreement (DS-12) on the Whittaker Bermite property.
The meeting is open to all members of the community. It gives members of the community the opportunity to raise concerns and have their questions answered.
