It was a game of emotion, passion and athleticism.
The West Ranch Wildcats held on to defeat the Hart Indians 74-71 Tuesday night at Hart High School in the league opener for both teams.
The game can be seen Wednesday at 8 p.m. on SCVTV (Time Warner Cable Channel 20, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, SCVTV.com Live Stream).
The Wildcats (7-8, 1-0) gave first-year head coach Shant Bicacki, a former Saugus and College of the Canyons player, his first league win in a contest that went back and forth through the second half.
In the first half, however, it was all West Ranch as the Wildcats opened up a nine-point lead midway through the second quarter. But the Indians (11-7, 0-1) closed the gap to 35-34 at halftime.
Hart continued that monetum in the second half, taking the lead early in the third quarter and stretching that lead to 44-39.
But West Ranch then went on an 11-0 run to re-take the lead 50-44 before Indians head coach Tom Kelly called a time out.
Hart was able to get to within two with 20 seconds remaining in the game. But a turnover gave West Ranch the ball which they turned into three points, and the decision was final.
West Ranch was led by Kevin Harris with 22 and Ako Kaluna with 20. Sophomore Lewis Stallworth led Hart with 18 and freshman Myles Franklin added 15.
