In the overarching classification of Fine Arts, which encompasses graphic design, painting and drawing, and visual communications, CalArts is rated sixth among the country’s best graduate schools.
In other specialties within Fine Arts, CalArts is rated fourth for its graduate program in Photography, seventh in Graphic Design and Sculpture and ninth in Painting / Drawing.
According to U.S. News, “the master of fine arts program rankings are based solely on the results of a peer assessment survey. These rankings, completed in 2012, are based on a fall 2011 survey of art school deans and other top art school academics, two per school, at 230 master of fine arts programs in art and design.”
