Saugus High School junior Cameron Quon took home first place at a national science-themed video competition in Washington D.C. last month.
More than 260 videos were submitted to the Kavli Foundation 2012 “Save the World Through Science & Engineering” video contest – a component of the USA Science & Engineering Festival, held in late April.
Students worldwide were invited to submit innovative solutions for new sources of energy, access to clean water, robotics, biotechnology, urban planning, and transportation.
Quon’s video “Saving with Solar” took home top honors in the competition.
He traveled to Washington D.C. to attend the Festival Expo, where hundreds of thousands of science fans gathered.
“I got to meet Bill Nye and I got a $2,000 cash prize award,” said Quon who also was awarded a 1-year subscription to Wolframalpha Mathematica 8.
The winners were awarded in a ceremony hosted by Nye, as part of the festival.
“This was a truly unforgettable experience,” Quon said.
