[Ekata Martial Arts] – Students at Ekata Martial Arts in Valencia train to attain focus, discipline and strength. They also are encouraged to give back to their community.
“We try to incorporate service projects into our curriculum at Ekata,” says Sifu Edward Monaghan, owner of Ekata and a professor at UCLA. “Our youth programs encourage students to excel not just in martial arts, but in academics and social responsibility.”
To get the message of giving back out to all of the kids in Santa Clarita, Ekata Martial Arts is sponsoring a Post-Halloween Candy Drive. Kids are invited to bring their extra candy to Ekata. The candy will be taken to Christ Lutheran Church and packaged for the charity Hands and Hearts. Hands to Hearts will ship the candy to U.S. troops serving overseas. “This is a nice way to send a little bit of home to our men and women serving abroad,” Monaghan says.
All non-students who donate candy will receive two weeks of free classes at Ekata.
Candy may be dropped off at Ekata Martial Arts, 23333 Cinema Drive, Valencia, Nov. 1-3 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Nov. 4 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Nov. 5 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
