Explorers from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station participated in the Central Valley Explorer Competition held July 17-19 in Modesto. Hosted by the Manteca, Modesto, Tracy, and Ripon Modesto Police Departments, along with Stockton CHP, the event was attended by young police cadets representing 32 different law enforcement agencies from across the state.
Explorers demonstrated their skills on how to handle a number of situations including active shootings, traffic stops, hostage negotiations and domestic disturbances. All of the events simulated scenarios that a peace officer might face in the line of duty.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Explorers earned a second-place award in both the Active Shooter and Suspicious Vehicle Scenarios.
The SCV Sheriff’s Station Explorer Program gives teenagers and young adults, ages 15-21, a chance to train with peace officers, learning the skills necessary to serve in law enforcement. Its primary purpose is to provide, through actual experience, a means by which young men and women may determine if they would like to pursue a career in law enforcement.
