To mark the 70th anniversary of the first supersonic flight on Oct. 14, 1947, following the formal ceremony Edwards Air Force Base will launch two formation flights which are scheduled to pass over Southern California schools today as part of its outreach to support STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education.
The first formation – two F-16 Fighting Falcons and a B-1B Lancer – will fly on a route over the Antelope Valley and Bakersfield, California.
The second formation – an F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-15 Eagle, F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II – is scheduled to fly a flight path over several cities in Southern California, including, Santa Clarita, Canyon Country, San Bernardino, Colton, Riverside, Costa Mesa, Long Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Agoura Hills, Simi Valley, Granada Hills, and Palmdale.
The second formation is scheduled to fly over the SCV between 12:28 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. and should be seen over Dr. J. Michael McGrath Elementary School, Valley View Elementary School, and Leona Cox Elementary School.
Both flights paths will be at an altitude low enough for easy viewing by the general public.

Anyone see it? Saw a video of the Apache’s flying over.

I saw them – all four flying in formation. Loud and proud flying over Granada Hills.
Where did you see them? Several of us waited until 1:30 at valley vista before we gave up ?

Laura Hawkins I had no idea anything would be flying today. My daughter and I heard a loud noise and saw the jets flying above us while we were in Granada Hills this early afternoon – sometime between 12:30-1:00PM.
Very disappointed, after school students waited over one hour, this is not ok
They flew over but rerouted up along the 14. Definitely higher than 1000’.
waited & waited on trail near sierra highway and golden valley. saw them way way off in the distance. I was bummed :(
maybe they turn on their super stealth mode and flew right over us!
No show! And yet Santa Clarita is on the way back to Edwards AFB from Granada Hills. Basically, don’t promote something and have people show up if you’re going to cancel…even Isis doesn’t get stood up by the Air Force on bombing runs.
Many kids waited at Valley View School to see the planes. Disappointed!

I waited at Target, near Lowes, overlooking the 14 Fwy, left around 130pm, nothing.
Nada, No show, I hope they put out some kind of statement from Edwards AFB, they have to explain what happened at the very least.
Kohl’s parking lot, overlooking the 14 Fwy., by 1:30pm the fighter jets were a NO SHOW; very disappointing. What happened?
