Hispanic and non-Hispanic students throughout the Hart School District are invited to attend a college night hosted by Golden Valley High School on Thursday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 8 pm, in the school’s theater and cafeteria. The event starts at 5 pm with a tamale and Latin pastry sale. Over 25 universities, colleges, and local businesses will be represented and available for questions. From 6:30 to 7:15 pm there will be a presentation on graduation requirements and postsecondary options. The presentation will be conducted in English and Spanish.

This event is open to all Hart District high school students, however, is designed for Hispanic students interested in learning more about various college and career opportunities. This event is being coordinated by Golden Valley teachers, Geni Peterson Henry, Natalie Dickey, and Kimberly Jimenez.

Students and parents attending the college night will learn about high school graduation requirements compared with college entrance requirements and opportunities at College of the Canyons. Attendees will also have the opportunity to talk with representatives from 25 universities, colleges, and local business.

In the past few years, the Hart School District has also hosted a similar night for African American students which proved to be a rewarding experience for those who attended.

Valencia JROTC Cadets Earn Top Marks

The Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program at Valencia High School has earned the highest possible rating of “Exceeds Standards” following its Unit Assessment conducted on Jan. 14.
