Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit
With the weather heating up and many residents riding bikes as a method of recreation, I would like to remind you about a crime trend we have seen in the past. Last summer we saw a rise in thefts of bicycles from open garages and residential areas. We are again beginning to see an increase in thefts of bicycles in the zones surrounding Saugus. In Valencia there were six bicycles stolen last week from residential areas. One bike was stolen from the front of a local gym. Please remember to secure your bicycle inside. Also, shut and lock your garages once your bikes are put away. It is easy for criminals to see you ride your bike into your garage and wait for you to leave the door open. Don’t give these criminals the opportunity.
There were only two reported Part-1 crimes in Saugus last week. The first was an attempt vehicle burglary in the 22900 block of Oakridge Drive late Wednesday night, 05/22/13, into early Thursday morning, 05/23/13. The victim discovered pry marks to her vehicle’s door along with the window being forced down a few inches. It was determined that entry was not made into the vehicle and nothing was taken.
There was a petty theft in the 20700 block of Dan Court on Saturday, 05/18/13. The victim discovered someone stole a check from his residence. The victim knew the suspect and notified the Sheriff’s Department. The suspect was arrested without incident.
There were multiple arrests over the past week in Saugus. The one arrest which stands out occurred on Tuesday, 05/21/13. While searching for a vandalism suspect, a deputy located two individuals hiding behind the closed businesses at the corner of Bouquet Canyon Road/Seco Canyon Road. The deputy detained the two individuals who matched the description of the vandalism suspects. After searching the individuals he found one of them to be in possession of a fixed blade knife and vandalism tools. After further investigation it was determined that the suspects had vandalized some of the businesses in the area. Both suspects were arrested without incident.
