Seven members of the College of the Canyons men’s soccer team have been named to the 2014 Western State Conference (WSC) All-Conference team, representing a Cougar squad that concluded the season with a record of 10-4-6 to finish in in the conference’s third spot.
“I’m extremely proud of the group of players who have been honored for their effort this season,” said COC men’s soccer head coach Phil Marcellin. “They truly represent the depth and talent of our team and showcase the balance in the system we play — with all positions both attacking and defending —which is critical to our success.”
Sophomore defender Juan Camacho, freshmen center Oscar Sanchez and freshman defender Chris Tumasone each earned First Team All-Conference honors for the Cougars.
Aside from playing stellar defense throughout the season, Camacho scored five goals and posted two assists for a total of 12 points in 19 games, finishing as the team’s third leading scorer.
Fellow defender Chris Tumasone registered four assists on the season, while also helping to anchor a Canyons backline that posted five shutouts on the season.
Sanchez tallied eight points, coming by way of three goals and two assists, in 16 games played for the Cougars. Two of the scores by Sanchez were game-winning goals.
Sophomore midfielder Jesus Pescador and freshman defender Omar Navarro were both named Second Team All-Conference
Pescador finished second on the team in scoring, netting six goals and an assist for 13 total points while starting in 17 games for the Cougars. Navarro started in 18 games for COC and tallied a goal and an assist on the season.
Rounding out COC’s honorees were sophomore forward Phillip Boscacci and freshman forward Andres Lozano who each received Honorable Mention designation.
Boscacci finished the season with four goals and four assists, while Lozano led the team in scoring with seven goals and three assists for a total of 17 points on the season.
“Having so many players from different positional roles receive recognition is encouraging,” added Marcellin. “We will miss the valuable contributions of our sophomores, but look forward to seeing how our freshman will perform during the 2015 season.”
