Over 500 teachers, administrators and supporters gathered at the Universal Hilton Friday to honor the Los Angeles County of Education’s Teachers of the Year, including Hart High School Biology teacher Erica Hardbarger.
A teacher for 17 years, Ms. Hardbarger, now a teacher on special assignment with the Hart School District, taught Biology and AP Biology at Hart High School. A colleague wrote, “Students know that if they have a problem, they can count on Erica to be there with a smile and an ear to listen.”
“The whole teacher of the year experience has been a bit overwhelming but very sweet too,” Hardbarger said. “Thank you to the Hart community for your support and recognition.”
Ms. Hardbarger was joined at the ceremony by her husband, Allan, who is also a teacher and the tennis coach at Hart High School, Superintendent Vicki Engbrecht, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michael Vierra, Hart Principal Jason d’Autremont, and Hart District Teachers Association President Jayme Allsman.
The Teachers of the Year program is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious recognition program to focus public attention on excellence in teaching.
