Castaic and Val Verde, Zone 2

There were five Part 1 Crimes in Zone 2.   One residential burglary was reported on Chiquito Canyon in Val Verde.  A resident’s window was pried half open in an attempt to gain entry.  The homeowner had placed a stick in the window rail preventing the suspect from getting the window open enough to climb through.  No items were reported missing from the residence.

There was one stolen vehicle in Castaic.  A local resident stole a golf cart from the Senior Center on Castaic Road.  An employee from the complex saw the golf cart parked at a neighboring location and reported it to the Sheriff station.  Responding deputies found the suspect driving the cart and detained him pending an investigation.  The suspect was arrested and the golf cart returned to the rightful owner.

A theft from a vehicle was reported in Val Verde.  A resident was woken by a noise in her front yard at 2:00 a.m.  She looked out her bedroom window and saw someone standing at the rear of their vehicle in the driveway.  The suspect broke the window of the vehicle and reached inside.  When the homeowner ran outside the suspect rode away on a bicycle.  No items were taken from the vehicle.

Two petty thefts were reported in Castaic. After running errands all day, a local resident was missing some of her belongings from inside her vehicle.  She believes the items were taken from her open vehicle window while parked at one of her stops.  While making donations at a local center, a female set her purse down to unload her vehicle.  After getting home and realizing she had forgotten her purse, she returned to find it was gone.

Please remember to close your garage doors, and never leave valuables in plain view in your vehicle.  Minimize your risk and avoid being the victim of a crime of opportunity.  If you see any suspicious activity, call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at (661) 255-1121 or
