Getting recruited into college is not always a slam dunk for student athletes. Without a good, reliable source of information, the process can be frustrating and quite daunting.
Henry Mayo Fitness and Health is hosting a free sports clinic, which covers sports medicine, sports rehabilitation and recruitment basics on Saturday, April 9, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Parents and student athletes can get answers to many of their questions from experts who will be presenting at the clinic:
Charles Young, MD, orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, will make a presentation about common sports injuries and treatment options.
Dr. Young earned his medical degree from University of Southern California Los Angeles where he also completed his orthopedic internship and residency. He earned his orthopedic sports fellowship from Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He serves as the medical chair for the ortho/spine co-management team at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
Among his awards and honors: W.P. Lindley Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award (top scholar-athlete at UC Davis); GTE-CoSIDA Academic All-American; Four-time Division II Men’s Swimming All-American; Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society; and Golden Key National Honor Society.
Marina Stockton, Supervisor, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Outpatient Therapy Services Golden Valley Clinic, will discuss sports rehabilitation.
Stockton, an Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) and a Physical Therapist (PT), received a doctorate of physical therapy from the University of Southern California and bachelor’s degree in biology and Spanish from the University of San Diego. She has worked with many young athletes in rehabilitation, and ran an ACL injury prevention program for adolescent female soccer players. Her PT background includes experience treating orthopedic injuries/post-surgical, TMD, lymphedema, breast cancer and post-mastectomy diagnoses, pilates, sports medicine and geriatric health.
Getting Into College: A Playbook for College Recruiting Success will be presented by Christopher Range, Sports Performance Director at Peninsula Wellness Center. Range holds a master’s degree in sport coaching and has worked with more than 5,000 junior high and high school athletes, including more than 50 professional and 100 NCAA Division I level athletes. He is a certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine. He was named as one of the top 10 athletic performance coaches within a network of more than 160 training facilities.
