The bipartisan Heroin Task Force of the House of Representatives unveiled an ambitious legislative agenda during a joint press conference in the United States Capitol today.
Led by Co-Chairs Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-CT) and Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (D-NH), the task force intends to prioritize passing legislation to address the rising heroin and opioid epidemic from multiple angles.
Representative Steve Knight (R-CA), along with other members of the Task Force, attended the press conference to highlight the importance of this agenda to their home districts.
Rep. Steve Knight
“For far too long, the heroin and opioid epidemic has plagued our communities and cost the lives of countless Americans,” Knight said. “The comprehensive slate of ambitious and forward-thinking legislation released today will attack this challenge from all sides. I want to thank Congressman MacArthur and Congresswoman Kuster for their leadership and advocacy on this issue.
“During my time as an LAPD officer, I saw first hand the devastation addiction and dependency can cause. This is an issue we must address immediately,” he said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance these priorities into law and help protect American lives and neighborhoods.”
