The California Highway Patrol has reopened southbound lanes of Interstate 5 at Gorman School Road and southbound lanes at Frazier Mountain Park Saturday afternoon after they were closed to clean up following multi-vehicle crashes in two locations, according to a tweet from the CHP’s Fort Tejon office at 6:50 p.m.
As many as 50 vehicles were involved, with as many as 100 more vehicles trapped between incidents, according to a notice from Caltrans District 7’s official Twitter account.
The CHP had initially closed the lanes at Frazier Mountain Park and Grapevine Road around 3:40 p.m.
Traffic was diverted to surface streets, causing major delays.
“If you are heading southbound, now would be a good time to check out The Outlets At Tejon,” the 3:40 CHP notice said. “We will get the lanes open as soon as possible.”
“I passed it northbound at 3:30 p.m.,” motorist Rosa Hammond posted on Facebook. “I have never seen such a horrible accident. So many cars involved. I pray everyone is ok…. Some cars on the northbound lane were driving with the emergency flashers on and driving slow. It must have been bad fog because there was fog when we passed it and the fog stayed for a while.”
Further details were not immediately available.
