A 69-year-old man from Culver City was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Tuesday morning following a big-rig collision.
A Sig-Alert was issued for the two right lanes of the I-5 southbound freeway, south of The Old Road around 4:48 a.m. The Sig-Alert is still in place at 9:30 a.m.
Around 4:30 a.m., the 69-year-old man was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Semi truck in the number five lane, the rightmost lane, of the southbound I-5 freeway, south of The Old Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
A 58-year-old man from Oxnard was driving a 1996 Peter-built Semi truck southbound in the same lane as the Volkswagen semi.
The man driving the Volkswagen semi “was traveling at an unsafe speed and collided into the rear of” the Peter-built semi, according to the report.
The Volkswagen driver sustained major injuries while the Peter-built driver did not have any injuries.
