Newhall, Zone 6
Public Safety and Crime Prevention Info
Week of 12/15/14 through 12/21/2014
A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.
Between Thursday the 18th at 3:30 p.m., and Friday the 19th at 8:00 a.m., a garage was burglarized in the 24200 block of Race Street. Tools and appliances were stolen.
On Friday the 19th, between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., a burglary occurred in the 25000 block of Walnut Street. The suspect removed a screen and forced open a window. The victim could not determine if anything was stolen.
Last week showed a spike in stolen vehicles in the area between Dockweiler Drive and Newhall Avenue, along Valle Del Oro. Three sedans, two pickups, and one motorcycle were reported stolen. One of the sedans has been recovered.
Most vehicles that are reported stolen throughout Los Angeles County are late 1990’s to early 2000’s, when the technology for “chipped” or electronic ignitions was still being developed. If your vehicle falls within this category, we recommend you take extra care in safeguarding it. Steering wheel locking devices, car alarms, and ignition disabling systems are just some of the ways you can make your vehicle less desirable to a would be thief.
Between Friday the 19th at 5:40 p.m., and Saturday the 20th at 4:20 a.m., a window smash vehicle burglary occurred in the 23600 block of White Oak Court. A lady’s purse and a Mickey Mouse hat were stolen.
On Tuesday the 16th, between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., a cash register was stolen from a business in the 23700 block of Newhall Avenue. An employee was working in the back and was unaware the theft had occurred.
On Thursday the 18th, an informant called to report a 43 year old male acting suspiciously in a park near a school. Deputies contacted the male and discovered he was in possession of an open alcohol container and had a probation warrant. The male was arrested and during booking, the deputies also discovered the male had narcotics. The male is currently awaiting court proceedings.
Remember to lock your doors and windows, don’t leave packages or valuables in plain view, and be aware of your surroundings. Be a good neighbor and report suspicious behavior.
