The Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation has funded a $10,000 grant proposal to support the completion of the science lab at Oak Hills Elementary School in the Newhall School District. The Foundation provided a similar grant in the past at Newhall, Peachland and Valencia Valley Schools. For the last two years dedicated parents at Oak Hills who are involved in the school’s foundation decided to focus their efforts on constructing a science lab. The Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation supported their effort.

The space at Oak Hills is equipped with science laboratory tables, water service, technology to enhance learning, scientific equipment and supplies for use by Oak Hills students so that they can engage in hands on science experiences within a laboratory setting. The Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation grant was used to supply an interactive white board, sound amplification system, and high-tech microscopes.

“Our parent supporters set out to make this lab a reality for our students,” said Luis Gamarra, principal of Oak Hills School. “Their efforts were supported even further with this grant and we are very grateful to the Newhall Foundation. This opportunity will provide our children with enriching learning experiences in science.”

Generous grants from the Foundation in the past have allowed Newhall schools to expand their outstanding instrumental music program and stock libraries. The District has a proven record of reasonable requests, consistent with the Foundation’s mission, and exercises fiscal responsibility in the expenditure of the funds.
