Bouquet Canyon Water Crisis Has Left LARC Ranch with No Choice but to Truck in Water While Waiting for Government Agencies to Resolve Bouquet Reservoir Stalemate. The Tab so Far: $43,000.

LARC Ranch has trucked in almost 2 million gallons of water so far while urging government leaders from several agencies to resolve a long-simmering dispute over how best to restore the flow that is contractually obligated to be released from Bouquet Reservoir. While we appreciate the efforts of county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and U.S. Rep Howard “Buck” McKeon to resolve this issue, we’re still waiting on a solution.

The ball is in the U.S. Forest Service’s court, and considering the environmental clearances that are normally required for a debris cleanup such as the one needed in Bouquet Creek to clear the way for the release of water from the reservoir, we may still be in for a long wait.

Meanwhile, we are still trucking in water — an unbudgeted and significant expense.

Special thanks to the Los Angeles Times and reporter Scott Gold, who wrote this excellent article on the situation.

2014 Fundraising
Contributions to Offset Water Costs, Aid Solar Installation Project

In conjunction with our 2014 fundraising efforts, we are now seeking to help offset the costs of trucking in water due to the Bouquet Canyon water crisis. Those unbudgeted costs are expected to exceed $150,000 this year.We are also looking ahead at the future of LARC Ranch and working hard to ensure that LARC’s valuable programs and services will be available to serve developmentally disabled adults for many years to come. A key element of this planning is LARC’s solar electricity project. Planned to begin construction later this year, the solar project will provide reliable energy and significantly reduce LARC’s utility expenses for many decades to come.

A portion of the funds we raise this year will help cover the required initial capital expense, which quite literally is an investment in the future of LARC Ranch. By reducing operating costs in future years we will not only help the environment, but will also promote the financial stability of LARC Ranch.

Please click on the blue “pledge” button below or visit the contributions page of the LARC website to make a donation online!
