1906 - Bercaw General Store opens in Surrey (Saugus) [story]
Bercaw Store

UPDATE Wednesday: Authorities are withholding the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin. He was identified as a white male in his 50s.

The train, with 124 passengers on board, was released Tuesday at 9:05 p.m.

(Original story)

A person was struck and killed by a Metrolink train early Tuesday evening in the Golden Triangle Road area of Saugus.

The victim appeared to be male, but that has not been confirmed.

The victim’s body came to rest in the dirt on the south side of the train tracks directly across the street from the Mountasia Family Fun Center.

The train was northbound. It is possible the victim was struck in or near the at-grade rail crossing at the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Golden Oak Road, but that has not been confirmed. The collision was initially reported at Soledad and Golden Oak at about 6:30 p.m.

Metrolink passengers headed for Via Princessa and the Antelope Valley were held on board the train, which came to a stop just past the body. The speed limit for trains in the area is 35mph.

That intersection is very dangerous. It’s not the first time that a pedestrian gets killed there. Last time it was a teenager who had headphones on and didn’t hear the train until it was too late and then tried to outrun it. Very sad indeed.

This is not the first or last suicide done at this train site. About a year ago a poor high school girl did the same thing. I was on the train after the incident and I feel bad for the person who did this but you should of seen how many people were seriously affected by this as well.

  26. …. You sure they didn’t pick a fight with the train and the train won? Typically trains don’t jump out and hit people and they don’t swerve off of tracks… Just saying.

I was a passenger on the train behind the one that struck the victim.. At 6:30 i really feel for the fam and vuctim in this case but i still dont understand how people do not see, or know what those RR signs mean… How much more enforcement do people need? I pray to the Lord that this person was not a person with a hearing or vision disability… May u rest in peace..

Unfortunately alot of people commit suicide this way. I don’t know the story behind this one, what ever it is so sad. RIP.

  31. Richard says:

I was there playing mini-golf. I heard and saw it. Called 911 first, spoke to the police. Very unfortunate incident. Unfortunately this happens everyday. Something you never wanna see, fortunately if you’re strong minded, you’ll be ok. All this back and forth on these comment boards is pathetic, always is. Social media and message boards like this make nobody’s feel important. R.I.P to another lost soul.

  32. May he rest in peace and my prayers go to the family :(

  33. How very sad for everyone involved.

  34. Does anyone have a description of this male..age, race, etc? Sarah Cohen?

  35. By the time I got finished reading this and scrolling threw the comments, I do have to say I’m truly sickened that someone died. But I’m kinda irritated at a few of the comments. There is still an investigation going on. If you don’t have nothing nice to say then don’t say it . Btw scvtv good job real life events real situations. Me personally, believes without a little gore you never really see the outcome of a choice that was made. Bad and good things happen I don’t mind seeing the both of them. . For the family my condolences. And to future kids that walk the tracks like I did , always be aware of your surroundings and don’t rush.
