LANCASTER, Calif. – Errol Robinson hit a grand slam and drove in five to lead the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes over the Lancaster JetHawks, 13-3, on Saturday night at The Hangar.
The JetHawks took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly by Wes Rogers, but the Quakes put up the next nine runs to break open the game. They scored four in the second and added five in the third.
Three straight RBI doubles highlighted the second inning for Rancho Cucamonga. They came from the bottom three hitters in the order: Ibandel Isabel, Brandon Montgomery, and Victor Roache. Robinson’s grand slam capped the big third inning for the Quakes. All five runs in the frame scored with two out. Robinson later added an RBI triple.
Lancaster starter Helmis Rodriguez (1-1) struggled, allowing nine runs on nine hits in three innings. Caleb Ferguson (3-4) earned the victory for Rancho Cucamonga. He scattered seven hits over five innings and allowed two runs.
After going 6-for-6 on Friday night, Yonathan Daza picked up a single in his first at-bat for the JetHawks. The 7-for-7 streak ended when he grounded out in the third. Sam Hilliard, Roberto Ramos, and Mylz Jones each recorded two hits in the contest.
Max Schuh tossed a pair of perfect innings out of the Lancaster bullpen. Logan Cozart also threw a scoreless inning in relief.
The win for Rancho Cucamonga was their third straight over the JetHawks to open the second half.
The four-game series concluded on Sunday night at The Hangar.
