[KHTS] – The SCV Rotary Club donated the community’s first two-faced rotary clock to the city of Santa Clarita on Friday for display in Old Town Newhall.
The clock is located in front of the Newhall Refinery restaurant at 24258 Main Street.
The decorative clock with a rotary emblem in the clock face was installed in front of the Newhall Refinery Friday.
Rotary Club members say the clock should be up and running for the Santa Clarita Fourth of July Parade for all to see.
Chris Ball, a member of the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club, said the funds for the donations of the rotary clock are estimated to be a total of $20,000.
Part of the funds are expected to benefit the Newhall Rotary Community Foundation, he said.
The rotary clock is a two-faced and two-sided clock with a measurement of about a 30-inch-wide clock head and a pedestal of 6 feet, Ball said. With the total height of the rotary clock being 9 feet tall.
The clock is internally lit with LED lights and has a digital controller making it easy to set the clock, he said. Along with the internal digital operations, the clock will have a traditional clock face.
There will be a donor plaque at the base of the clock along with finished landscaping and a dedication ceremony sometime in August, he said.
The Rotarian in charge of the rotary clock project is Lou Esbin, who is the incoming president of the local Rotary Club for next year starting July 1st.
AV Equipment Rentals, located at 24933 Railroad Ave., donated the equipment including a tractor to help install the rotary clock.
“The city of Santa Clarita donated the space and donated the foundation. The Rotary Club donated the clock pedestal and the clock itself,” Ball said. “It will be owned and maintained by the city of Santa Clarita Landscaping Department.”
The Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club will be serving breakfast including pancakes and sausage on the 4th of July from 6:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. for $4 a person at the Roger Dunn Golf parking lot at 24200 Main St., Ball said.
The Rotary Club meets for lunch at Marie Callender’s Restaurant and Bakery every Wednesday at noon, all are welcome.

Why do they need to spend $20,000 on a clock! That money could be used better elsewhere.
