wrhs-logoThe West Ranch boys basketball team is in the semifinals of the St. Hope Elite Classic tournament in Sacramento after a 78-66 win over Chico.

Ako Kaluna recorded a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Kevin Harris led the Wildcats in scoring with 31 points.

The Canyon boys basketball team lost to Rio Mesa, 51-48, in overtime. Ben Taufahema scored 20 points and made five 3-pointers for Canyon.

The Valencia girls basketball team beat Granada Hills, 56-32, in the Magnolia Park Optimist Club tournament. Kalia Summerlin scored 21 points for the Vikings.

In college basketball, the College of the Canyons men took aim from long distance and beat El Camino College, 79-66.

The Cougars made 12 3-pointers in the game. Jaylen Bland led the way, hitting 7 of 9 3-point shots and scored 30 points. He also had 10 rebounds.

David Horst scored 12 points and had eight rebounds off the bench for COC.

In high school wrestling, the Trinity Classical Academy lost to Faith Baptist, 42-18, in the first varsity match in school history for the Knights.

Next up for Trinity is the Santa Paula tournament on Jan. 4.

The NHL cancelled more games and wiped out more than half the scheduled season.

Games through Jan. 14 are off the board, bringing the total number of games cancelled to 625. Nearly 100 games were scratched off in the latest announcement.

The entire NHL season is closer to being cancelled. The last time the NHL wiped out a season was in 2004-05.
