Over 500 people watched as Saugus High School students, faculty, and alumni unveiled the newest feature of its campus: a 20 foot long and 16 foot high “Wall of Honor” that pays tribute to the 225 veterans from Saugus High School and the three graduates who died during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The project was a joint effort that began last year, when Saugus High School student Steve Plante teamed up with Saugus High School Principal Bill Bolde to come up with the idea for the Wall of Honor.

In front of the crowd of 500, that included Mayor Bob Kellar, Assemblyman-Elect Dante Acosta, and Hart District Board member Linda Storli, the wall was unveiled in a emotional moment for those who attended.

“This was one of the most impressive ceremonies I’ve seen,” said William S. Hart School District Public Information Officer, Dave Caldwell. “The tributes were moving and the fact that this was a student led project shows that the future leadership of this country is very sound.”

Caldwell noted that Plante raised funds for creating the wall throughout last year and was primarily responsible for making it happen.

Its unveiling marks a new feature for the high school that students, faculty, and visitors will see in the front of the campus.
