Santa Clarita Valley International (SCVi), a K-12 tuition-free public charter school, is not just building a community of globally minded citizens with the power to change the world; it is one. And now, one of its founders, Amber Raskin, has been invited to visit an international school—Pinegrove School in India—as guest of honor and speaker at its Annual Founder’s Day Celebration on October 18, 2014. Amber is the first woman to be invited to speak at this event.
“We reiterate that your presence shall be a huge morale booster for the children and hope some of them will be motivated to emulate you one day,” the school’s Headmaster Capt. AJ Singh wrote in a formal invitation to Amber and SCVi.
Pinegrove, which was established in 1991, is an English-speaking residential, co-ed school that serves 1,000 students through two locations—a lower school campus in Dharampur and upper school campus in Subuthu. It is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi (CBSE), a member of the Indian Public Schools’ Conference (IPSC), and a member of the International Awards for Young People (IAYP), previously known as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. It has adopted programs of the British Council of India and has been awarded the Council’s International School Award 2014-17
On October 11-28, SCVi upper school staff, learners, and their families who make up the school’s GO (global outreach) team will also travel to India. While there, they will have the opportunity to stay with host families and sight-see at historic, culturally rich places like Taj Mahal, Gandhi Memorial, Lotus Temple, Presidents House, and more. They will also visit Pinegrove School for two days, where SCVi learners will take part in the Annual Founder’s Day Celebration and make a presentation to Pinegrove School staff and students. They will even get to celebrate India’s holiday tradition, Diwali the Festival of Lights, during their trip.
“Pinegrove School has a strong reputation for its high standards of excellence in education,” says Amber Raskin, SCVi co-founder and director of operations and business development. “I’m thrilled that not only will I have the opportunity to visit and learn more first-hand about this international school, but many of our learners and their families will as well.”
