Update 8:45 p.m.:

Sheriff’s bomb squad deputies have recovered a FAKE “suicide jacket” from the vehicle. They are sweeping the entire parking lot of the Valencia Crossroads shopping center to make sure there’s nothing dangerous there and will reopen it once it’s clear.

Original Sheriff statement:

At 5:30 p.m. Monday, SCV Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 23700 block of Del Monte Drive, Valencia regarding a vehicle that was just stolen by an unknown suspect.  Deputies immediately began to search the area for the late model Toyota Camry that was reported stolen.

Deputies located the vehicle, now abandoned, parked in the parking lot area of Whole Foods Market and Kohl’s (24100 block of Valencia Blvd).  Inside the stolen vehicle deputies saw a suspicious package that contained wires and other suspicious items.

Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail deputies have been called to the scene and are investigating as a precaution.  Large portions of the parking lot area, including some local businesses have been evacuated as a precaution only as the investigation proceeds.

As of 7:45 p.m. the investigation is on-going.  No further details are available at this time.  No injuries have been reported.
