Travis Kolbo, the driver in an early morning crash on June 17 that seriously injured a woman and destroyed the awning and several pumps at the Chevron gas station at the corner of Sierra Highway and Newhall Avenue, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury.
Kolbo’s blood alcohol level was reportedly .13, nearly twice the legal limit, causing a judge to issue an arrest warrant for him.
Deputy Jeff Maag of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s traffic division said that they went to Kolbo’s apartment but found it empty. After a little detective work, they discovered that Kolbo has a sister in Bakersfield and headed north. They found him at his sister’s apartment and he was taken into custody.
In the accident, Kolbo suffered a broken wrist and broken leg, from which Maag says he is recovering. His passenger, 30-year old Kimberly Cameron, is still suffering from her injuries and may face additional surgery.
“She was just getting a ride,” Maag said.
Kolbo is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court on Friday.
The crash was captured on security cameras at the gas station and the video released quickly went viral.
