1839 - Judge John F. Powell born in Galway, Ireland [story]
John F. Powell

[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley residents hoping to see “The Interview” for its Christmas day premiere won’t have any local options, and perhaps none at all, theater officials and industry insiders said Wednesday.

“We are not playing the movie here,” said Sarah Fish, manager at Edwards Valencia. “No (Regal Theaters) are.”

theinterviewmovie2A manager at the Regal theater in Canyon Country declined to comment, but a CNN story reported the national movie chain was not playing the movie on any screens due to threats.

“The Interview” became controversial because its plot involves the attempted assassination of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, according to a CNN article. Sony Pictures has been devastated by a cyberattack that appears motivated by anger over the film.

Regal Theaters, which owns and operates both Edwards Cinema locations in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The movie, starring James Franco and Seth Rogen, was originally slated to premiere on Christmas day.

theinterviewmovieThe famed ArcLight Theatre in Hollywood has not decided yet, either, according to a corporate representative. Earlier, sources at Sony said ArcLight had indeed pulled the film.

Others are apparently still deciding. There was conflicting information on Wednesday afternoon about AMC Entertainment — some sources said AMC had yanked the film from its screens, but others said the theater operator hadn’t made a final decision.

  21. But….but…we’re MURICA! Wtf?We don’t back down??We go knock on the haters door and blown there house down!A little pew pew pew! Damn you Kim slong dong!

  22. Wow. Way to make us look like a bunch of chumps, Sony!

  23. So stupid. It’s a movie for God’s sake. No one is going to actually attempt anything.

  24. The decision to pull the movie from theaters was unfortunate but understandable.
The perceived threat (which I don’t personally consider credible) would have kept families away from theaters altogether during the holiday movie season, and our entire film industry would have taken a massive collective hit, not just Sony.

We mustn’t forget that many families in the SCV rely heavily on a thriving film industry.

The problem is that now Sony has scrapped the movie completely (in ANY form of distribution including VOD and DVD), which sends the wrong message to a tyrant who has now effectively succeeded (at least symbolically) in silencing free expression on our own turf.
That was absolutely the wrong decision.
They should have immediately released the film free of charge on VOD as an act of defiance against tyrannical censorship and cyber-terrorism, while keeping theater patrons out of harm’s way (unlikely as that may have been).

Seeing several trailers plus the informercial at the local Edwards, It looked like a real stinker, and would have faded by the following weekend. (We were going to see the film of Zamparrini). Funny that Team America, World police didn’t elicit something more than a fart from N. Korea.

  28. So stupid! By doing this we show the enemy we are too afraid to stand up for own rights because the almighty dollar is more important. Our ancestors are rolling over in their graves! It’s disgusting

  29. Jason Allen says:

Can’t Dennis Rodman smooth this out? ;)

  30. Scott says:

    The terrorists win again.

And whatever emails or information the “hackers” still have had GOT to be REALLY bad. Sony execs definitely don’t want SOMETHING getting out.

  31. Dave Lee says:

The Sony execs just want the exposure of their emails to stop.

  32. Too bad, I was going to see it just to support our freedoms.

  33. It was a stupid subject matter, done by stupid executives, approved by the White House in July after viewing an early cut. It has poor reviews and people who want to, can see it later on demand or Netflix. What was Sony thinking?.. The north Korean guy is a nut and then they make a comedy about killing him
