The Master’s College men’s basketball team’s 2013-14 season fell to 13-6 and 1-3 in Golden State Athletic Conference play with an 80-66 loss to Biola Saturday night at Bross Court.
With the score going back and forth in the opening 6 minutes, Biola’s Grant Corsi broke the game’s fourth and final tie and put the Eagles up 15-13. From there, Biola controlled the court and entered the half with a 35-27 lead.
At the break, TMC went 8-9 (88%) behind the charity stripe, 9-27 (33%) from the field, and 1-9 (11%) behind the arc.
After the break, the Eagles dominance continued by controlling the court in all aspects for the entirety of the second stanza. At the 4:07 mark, Biola enjoyed a game-high 15-point lead (69-54) when Mike Kurtz drove in a commanding layup.
However, three-pointers from Derrick Fain (Dallas, TX) and Bernard Ireland (Rialto, CA) cut the Eagles lead to 10 points with 58 seconds left to play. But, a Mustang comeback fell short as Biola’s Andre Murillo and Dakari Archer scored four points in the final 40 seconds, closing the game at 80-66.
Despite the outcome TMC’s Dominique Lanier (Lakewood, CA) led all scorers with 26 points. As a team, the Mustangs went 24-56 (42%) from the field, 4-19 (21%) behind the arc, and 14-20 (70%) from the line.
The Mustangs now look to right the ship on Tuesday when the squad travels to Santa Barbara to face the Westmont Warriors. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
