The Master’s College men’s basketball team has signed Lawrence Russell, a 6-5 guard from Port Townsend, Washington.
“I chose to attend The Master’s College because while visiting the campus, I noticed the amazing atmosphere and that the outstanding coaches who made me feel at home,” said Russell. “I love the Christian environment and felt it was the best place for me to grow as a person.”
Russell, a transfer from Lower Columbia College, enters his time as a Mustang with an impressive athletic resume highlighted by All-Northwest Athletic Conference MVP honors and the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year for the 2015-16 season.
Russell averaged 17.1 ppg over 29 games with the Red Devils. He shot 51% (171-333) from the field, including 39% (42-109) from behind the arc, and 80% (113-141) from the charity stripe. In addition, the newest Mustang averaged 17.14 points per game, 2.8 apg, 7.41 rpg, and 2.17 spg.
Looking to build on his impressive 2015-16 season, Russell is already focused on reaching a number of admirable goals.
“I want to win a Golden State Athletic Conference title and make a deep run in the NAIA National Tournament,” said Russell.
When not competing, Russell plans to major in Communication and pursue a career as a firefighter after his time at TMC.
Commenting on Russell’s signing, first-year TMC head coach Kelvin Starr said, “I’m really excited that Lawrence picked TMC as the place to finish his college career. His versatility gives us an added boost on both ends of the floor.”
Starr plans on having Russell play as a guard.
Russell joins Timothy Soares, a 6-10 forward from Brazil, Travis Yenor, a 6-8 guard/forward from Boise, ID, Noah Peterson, a 6-2 guard from Santa Clarita, California, and a slew of returning players on TMC’s 2016-17 roster.
