Futbol Club Santa Clarita’s Storm soccer team beat Real San Jose 2-1 in the 91st minute of play Saturday with a penalty kick. As the Fullerton Rangers came away with a tie against Sonoma, the Storm (4-2-1) leapfrogged over the Rangers to take second place.
It was in the end of the first 45 minutes of play when Storm defender Gregory Quintero received a pass from Alex Harlley and gave the team a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
It took just one minute into the second half for San Jose to come back with a goal of their own when midfielder Bronil Koochoie took a pass form Omar Valdez and shot the ball past Storm Keeper Steven Rodriguez.
The score remained tied until the last minute of stoppage time (91st min.) when Storm midfielder Wayne Lampart was fouled in the box and a penalty kick was awarded. Andres Bueno took the kick and gave the Storm the lead and the win.
Storm is now 4-2-1 (international style scoring) with 14 points in second place in the Southwest Conference of the National Premier Soccer League.
