[LASD] – Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca joined Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck and Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell, in accepting a $60 million grant from the Urban Areas Security Initiative. UASI Nonprofit Security Grants Program (NSGP) provides funding support for target hardening and other physical security enhancements and activities to nonprofit organizations that are at high risk of a terrorist attack and located within a specified urban area.
Sheriff Baca stated that these types of grants allow for a faster, more focused regional response during major emergencies such as earthquakes, wildfires, civil disobedience, or terrorist attack.
“Though we all wear different uniforms,” stated Sheriff Baca, “we can track and fight potential terrorist threats and respond more efficiently to natural or man-made disasters as one cohesive force…a true regional response, due to this generous U.A.S.I. grant.”
