An 8-year-old Castaic boy has died, four days after being pulled from a washing machine that was full of water.
The boy, who was not identified, was found by his parents in a washing machine at their residence, located in the 30500 block of Pansy Court, Castaic on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The victim’s father pulled the boy from the machine.
The boy’s mother had gone to the store, while his father tended to yard work. When the father realized his son was in the washing machine, he pulled the unresponsive boy from the machine and called 911.
The boy’s condition was initially pronounced as grave, but critical.
He was pronounced dead Sunday at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Deputies with the Special Victims Unit of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station investigated the incident, but determined it was a “tragic accident,” said Sgt. Brian Hudson of the Sheriff’s Station.
Paramedics found him on the ground, next to a washing machine with his father at his side, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said.
The boy’s father told investigators he was outside working in the yard and went inside to check on his son.
When the father entered the laundry room, he saw the boy’s feet and legs sticking out of the washing machine, his face submerged in water, deputies said.
Personnel from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the location. When deputy personnel arrived, they found the child lying in front of the washing machine, unresponsive and not breathing.
Deputies administered CPR to the child until the arrival of Fire Department personnel. The child was resuscitated and transported to a local hospital, and from there he was sent to UCLA.
Authorities used the case as a warning to parents to always watch their children.
