Former LA King Daryl Evans spoke to kids Wednesday at Sierra Vista Junior High about being physically active.

Sierra Vista Junior High is participating in MOVEMBER, a national event during the month of November helping to make students aware of living a healthy lifestyle.

A street hockey rink was set up in the gymnasium giving students a chance to play, which was no coincidence as this is the 5^th consecutive year the school has partnered with the LA Kings hockey team.

Former King and current radio color analyst Daryl Evans spoke to the students at the Canyon Country campus about being physically active.

“I think anytime somebody that has gone through what I have gone through in life and has been as fortunate as I am, I think it’s a great opportunity to be able to share it with the young generation,” Evans said.

According to PE chair George Velarde, the relationship between the Kings and the school generates noticeable differences in the students.

“The kids look up to these professional athletes,” Velarde said. “And when they say something, kids are going to listen. And with the partnership we have with the Kings it fits into our mold of what we want, for kids to be physically active for life. So it’s a great partnership we’ve had from day one.”

In addition to helping students lead a physically active lifestyle, MOVEMBER also raises money for men’s health and cancer research.
