Here’s a look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week:
On Saturday the 28th, at 7:00 p.m., a resident in the 23600 block of Newhall Avenue found a male in his vehicle attempting to steal it. The victim confronted the suspect and the suspect attacked him with a screwdriver. The suspect fled the area but deputies were able to identify him as a known parolee from Sylmar.
On Wednesday the 25th, between 6:20 p.m. and 11:45 p.m., a window smash vehicle burglary occurred in a parking lot near Railroad Avenue and Market Street. The victim had a laptop and an external hard drive stolen which had been left on the front seat.
Between Thursday the 26th at 4:00 p.m., and Friday the 27th at 5:30 a.m., a vehicle burglary occurred in the 20900 block of Costa Brava. The suspect possibly got in through a window that does not function properly. Electronics, paperwork, and personal items were stolen.
On Wednesday the 25th, while deputies were following up on a tip from an earlier theft report in the 23400 block of 8th Street, they discovered a vehicle that had been stolen in Newhall in August last year. Through their investigation they identified and arrested a 36 year old male for grand theft auto.
Between Wednesday the 25th at 5:30 p.m., and Thursday the 26th at 7:30 a.m., a Jeep “Grand Cherokee” was stolen from the 21400 block of Grape Lily Circle. The vehicle has not been recovered yet.
On Saturday the 28th, a Ford “Ranger” was stolen from 23244 Sierra Highway. The truck was recovered Sylmar on March 1st.
Between Saturday the 28th at 1:00 p.m., and Sunday the 1st at 6:30 a.m., a Honda “Civic” was stolen from 24700 Valley Street. The vehicle has not been recovered.
On Saturday the 28th, at 7:45 p.m., a wallet containing identification and $700 cash was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 23200 block of Sierra Highway.
There were three adults arrested last week in the Newhall area for narcotic related charges, one for domestic violence, and two adult males from out of the area were booked for public intoxication.
In response to more than one car break-in a day in Santa Clarita, Sheriff and City officials have launched an outreach/education campaign to remind drivers to always lock their cars and never leave valuables inside their vehicles. For more information, visit: www.santa-clarita.com/lockitorloseit.
