The City of Santa Clarita’s popular River Rally Cleanup and Environmental Expo will take place this Saturday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Residents and organizations who are interested in participating in the River Rally cleanup are required to register in advance at GreenSantaClarita.com or by calling the River Rally Hotline at 661-284-1415. The deadline for participants to sign up is this Wednesday, Sept. 14.
For the past 21 years, volunteers have come together for the annual River Rally Cleanup to remove trash from various segments of the river. This year’s cleanup event will start at the Newhall Community Center, located at 22421 Market Street.
Residents can give back to the community two ways at River Rally this year. New this year, participants are encouraged to bring a canned or boxed non-perishable food item to donate to the SCV Food Pantry. This is an excellent volunteer opportunity for scout troops, youth groups and the entire family!
Be sure to also visit the event’s informational Environmental Expo which will feature vendors offering helpful tips on recycling, air quality, pollution prevention, water quality, open space preservation and wildlife conservation programs in Santa Clarita.
As a reminder, all participating volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and appropriate clothing for walking in the riverbed. Gloves, collection bags and refreshments will be provided to participants and volunteers will receive a commemorative giveaway (while supplies last). Also, residents are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle to help reduce waste.
Free bike valet will be provided. The event is open to all ages, however pets are not allowed. For more information on the 22nd annual River Rally and Environmental Expo, call the River Rally hotline at (661) 284-1415, or to sign up to participate, visit GreenSantaClarita.com.
