The County of Los Angeles Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (D.C.B.A.) is proud to introduce L.A. County’s Contracting Connections program as part of National Small Business Week (April 30 – May 6, 2017). D.C.B.A. Small Business Services staff will attend events all week to encourage small businesses owners to register and certify with the county to access contracting opportunities worth nearly $1 billion.
The county’s small business utilization goal, set by the Board of Supervisors in 2016, is to increase the percentage of county contracts that go to local small businesses to 25 percent, and certified disabled veteran-owned businesses to 3 percent over a four-year period (through 2020).
“This is truly an amazing time for businesses in the county,” said D.C.B.A. Director Brian J. Stiger. “Many government contracts are within reach for small businesses and our dedicated team can help you certify, connect, and grow.”
The Contracting Connections program includes a first-of-its-kind certification program for social enterprises, which are businesses who work to enhance the County through economic, social, or environmental sustainability. At Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Chair Mark Ridley-Thomas will present a scroll to Niki Okuk, whose certified social enterprise business is creating jobs for individuals facing barriers to employment.
